Susanna Comes to Visit

It was early, another morning like so many others but in all honesty, it wasn't. The day before had been filled with a shit storm of emotions. She’d been mean to Peter, who only wanted to help her, and he’d been congenial about it, but that had made things worse.

She’d spoken to her supervisor and they'd agreed that she could work from home for as long as needed. Lucky for her the computer program she used was transferable and she was all set up in Peter's study with a large screen and the CAD program fully functional on her PC.

She knew what she needed to do and had promised her team leader to have a check off meeting at the beginning and end of each day, unless something urgent came up. Everyone was very understanding, more than she'd hoped for. Considering the situation, she'd allowed her manager, Anders, to convey the issue to her colleagues, as much for their safety as her own. And even though she'd not been there to see the look on their faces, Susanna informed her that most people had reacted more strongly to her situation with her family than knowing she was a transgender woman.

“You sure there has been no talking?” She asked Susanna again while biting her lip. It sounded odd that everyone was so accepting.

“Don't you trust me?”

“Of course, I trust you, Susanna. It’s just odd that no one said a single bad thing.” She insisted on serving a plate of gingerbread cookies and the cinnamon buns she made that morning especially for Susanna's visit.

“Maybe it’s you who is so used to people being arseholes that you see a wolf in every room,” Susanna said with a goofy grin. She snapped up a gingerbread cookie and started munching away.

Ayla rolled her eyes. “I'm not that pessimistic.” She muttered as she pushed up on her toes to get to the coffee mugs that Peter put on the top shelf just out of reach. “Who puts their mugs on the top shelf?”

“A tall person,” Susanna said logically. Ayla stuck her tongue out. “Besides, we’re in Sweden, Ayla dearest. If anyone, you know how Swedish people are, we're passive aggressive. We don't say out loud what we think. We tittle-tattle behind people’s backs because we’re contemptible chicken shits to do it face to face.”

“God,” Ayla dragged the word out, “who pissed in your coffee this morning?”

“Stina, but that’s a completely different story, and I'm not willing to go there. Such a wench that woman, I bet she hasn't been laid for decades.”

“So, we should feel sorry for her then?” Ayla asked with humor splayed in her voice.

“Probably,” Susanna helped herself to another gingerbread cookie. “You know, these are like chips, you can't just have one. They should come with a warning label 'be prepared to eat the entire box' and get fat in the process.”

“You are not fat.” Ayla scowled and glared at her.

“No, I'm otherwise enlarged,” Susanna snickered.

Ayla cackled. “Stop it, you are not.
